Veterinary care in Gishushu

Royal Pets Center isn’t just a shop with a vet on call — it runs a real, working veterinary clinic in Kigali, built right inside the pet store in Gishushu on 16 KN 5 Road. The same team that stocks the food and medicine is the team that treats dogs and cats here every day.

That means a single trip can cover a check-up, the vaccines your pet is due, and the medicine to take home — without driving across the city. For everyday pet owners in Kimironko, Kacyiru, Nyarutarama, Remera and the rest of Kigali, it’s a vet you can actually reach.

What our vets handle

Day to day, our vets in Kigali look after:

  • Consultations & check-ups — general health exams for dogs and cats, including new puppies and kittens.
  • Vaccinations — rabies plus the core dog and cat vaccines, with puppy and kitten schedules.
  • Deworming & parasite control — routine worming and protection against intestinal parasites.
  • Flea & tick treatment — quick relief and ongoing prevention for itchy, infested coats.
  • Minor procedures & wound care — cleaning, dressing and treating cuts, abscesses and small injuries.
  • Health & nutrition advice — what to feed, how much, and when to worry about a symptom.
  • Travel health certificates — vet paperwork for pets that are travelling to Rwanda or being relocated abroad.

When to bring your pet in

Some things can wait; others shouldn’t. Bring your dog or cat to the clinic if you notice any of the following:

  • Off their food, or drinking far more or less than usual.
  • Vomiting, diarrhoea, or a swollen, painful belly.
  • Limping, stiffness, or reluctance to move or jump.
  • Itchy, red or smelly skin and ears, or hair loss and constant scratching.
  • Due (or overdue) for vaccines, deworming or flea treatment.

When in doubt, call +250 791 100 007 and describe what you’re seeing — we’ll tell you whether it’s a come-in-now or a watch-and-wait.

In-house pet pharmacy

A diagnosis is only useful if you can act on it. That’s why we keep an in-house pet pharmacy stocked with prescription and over-the-counter medicine — so the treatment a vet recommends is usually on the shelf the same visit.

You can also browse and reorder online: see pet medicine and dewormers in our shop, along with vitamins and supplements to keep a recovering or growing pet on track.

Travel & export health certificates

Taking a pet out of Rwanda — or bringing one in — means paperwork: a vet examination, up-to-date rabies vaccination, and a signed health certificate within the timing the destination requires. Our vets issue those certificates and make sure the dates line up.

Because we also run pet relocation in the same building, the certificate can slot straight into the rest of the trip. See our pet relocation service and the step-by-step guide to importing a pet to Rwanda.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is there a vet in Kigali for dogs and cats?
Yes. Royal Pets Center runs a working veterinary clinic in Gishushu, Kigali, on 16 KN 5 Road. Our vets see dogs and cats every day for consultations, vaccinations, deworming, flea and tick treatment, minor procedures and general health advice — all in the same building as our pet pharmacy and shop.
  • Do you do pet vaccinations in Kigali?
We do. We give rabies vaccinations and the core dog and cat vaccines, and we'll set up a schedule for puppies and kittens. Bring any previous vaccination record if you have one so we can keep your pet's history accurate, which also matters if you plan to travel.
  • Do I need an appointment or can I walk in?
Walk-ins are welcome during opening hours — Monday to Saturday 08:00–20:00 and Sunday 11:00–18:00. For surgery, travel certificates or busy times it's best to call or WhatsApp +250 791 100 007 first so a vet is ready for you and there's no wait.
  • Can you issue a travel/health certificate for my pet?
Yes. Our vets can examine your pet and issue the health and vaccination certificates needed for travel out of or into Rwanda. Because we also run a pet relocation desk, we can line the certificate up with import permits, crates and airline cargo so the whole trip is handled in one place.
  • Where can I buy pet medicine after the visit?
Right at the clinic. We keep an in-house pet pharmacy, so prescription and over-the-counter medicine, dewormers, flea and tick treatments and vitamins are on the shelf — you can fill what the vet prescribes before you leave, or order it from our online shop.
